Francisco Balagtas, known as the “Prince of Filipino Poets” and the “Filipino Shakespeare”, completed his epic in 1838 and it is one of the foundational pillars of Philippine Literature. This year is the first time Florante at Laura is being read in full in Canada or in the US.
This new production being led by visionary director Ronald Mervin Sison and assistant director Tricia Magsino Barnabe is a collaboration between The Philippine Heritage Council of Manitoba through President Perla Javate, members of the Manitoba Association of Filipino Teachers Inc (MAFTI) represented by Gennalyn Tan and Vicky Cabrera and Allan Pineda of Bahay Kubo’s Kultivation Festival.
The company cast is composed of local Filipino talent who have selflessly volunteered their time and effort to make this production a reality.

Nakumpleto ni Francisco Balagtas, na kilala bilang “Prinsipe ng mga Makatang Pilipino” at “Filipino Shakespeare”, ang kanyang epiko noong 1838 at isa ito sa mga pundasyong haligi ng Literatura ng Pilipinas. Ito ang unang unang taon na binabasa ng buo at walang bawas ang Florante at Laura sa Canada o sa US.
Ang bagong produksyon na ito na pinamumunuan ng bisyonaryong direktor na si Ronald Mervin Sison at assistant director na si Tricia Magsino Barnabe. Ito ay isang kolaborasyon ng The Philippine Heritage Council of Manitoba sa pamamagitan ni President Perla Javate, mga miyembro ng Manitoba Association of Filipino Teachers Inc (MAFTI) na kinakatawan nina Gennalyn Tan at Vicky Cabrera at ni Allan Pineda ng Bahay Kubo Kultivation Festival.
Ang kumpanya ng mga aktor ay binubuo ng mga lokal na talentong Pilipino na nag-alay ng kanilang oras at pagsisikap upang maisakatuparan ang produksyon na ito.
