Who We Are: We are a group of passionate medical students at the University of Manitoba dedicated to advocating for greater representation of Filipinxs in the field of medicine.

Did You Know?: Despite being the largest group of new immigrants in Canada (15.58%) and the largest visible minority in Manitoba, Filipinxs comprise only 0.8% of Canadian medical students.

Our Mission: We are committed to addressing issues of under-representation and inequity within the Filipino community through mentorship, research, and community outreach.

Symbolism Behind Our Logo: Our logo merges the iconic Sun of the Philippines with the rod of Asclepius, a symbol rooted in ancient Greek religion and mythology, representing healing and medicinal arts. The Baybayin script at the top translates to “gamutin” in English, symbolizing “to cure,” “to heal,” or “to treat with medicine.”

Stay Connected: Follow our journey on Instagram @fams_uofm and be part of the movement to increase representation, inspire resilience, and promote equitable healthcare opportunities for all. Admission is free, and refreshments will be provided. Join us for this empowering event that celebrates the triumphs and stories of Filipinx medical professionals making a difference in the world of medicine.
